During the 1950's, 1563 ROC posts were built under Britains surface as the threat of the Cold War developed.

Each bunker was built 15ft underground and was encased in a concrete shell, the bunkers mainly had 2 personnel who's original main duty was to identify aircraft from nearby watch towers (like an early warning system) later they stayed inside the bunker and had bunk beds, a chemical toilet and government rations. They were there to inform a command post of a hit by a nuke and were also there to document the fallout. They comunitcated via radio.

The M.O.D. ceased activities in all ROC posts in September 1992 and have since sold on the posts to farmers or private owners. Some posts are open and some are padlocked by their original Battleship locks when closed back in 1992.

Many have unfortunatly fell into hands of arsonists and have suffered much damage, but in more remote places many have been found in mint condition, like a time capsule to the day they were closed.
